About

My name is Nathan Hall, and I am the Digital Projects Manager for a non-profit in Fort Worth called the Photographic Preservation Society. I am also a full time doctoral student in the Information Science program, and I plan to finish my coursework this summer.

My dissertation will probably involve how people interact with technology. If the literature review portion of my dissertation proposal did not show some level of fluency with human cognition, questions would probably be asked. I hope to build a familiarity with the literature in the field of cognition and logically connect it to my research. My research will deal in part with what happens when a person looks at an image, and that is where cognitive theory will be most relevant.

I tried to ignore technology until Fall, 2004, when I started my Masters degree in Library and Information Science, and became a Graduate Library Assistant in the Digital Projects Unit in the UNT Libraries. Since then, I have learned a deal about relational databases, imaging technologies, digital libraries, content management, and a little bit about programming. I should know more about networks and servers, but I do not. I wish I knew more about programming, especially for text and image retrieval, but that will come with time and effort.

I am, for the moment, approximately, at 32°43′ 52″ N, 97°21′ 60″ W, according to the Flickr map’s GIS software. Generally though, I live in Denton, just north of the UNT campus, in a neighborhood that is quiet but for the neighbor’s kid and his friends filing off their exhaust pipes with the purpose of making their cars louder, because, “dude, that sounds tight.

I look forward to sharing ideas with you all.
